Ari Sitas

Ari Sitas is a writer and sociologist. He is the Head of School of Sociology and Social Studies at UKZN.

In his chapter, Wonderwoman vs the World Bank, Ari treats us to a witty and biting play about gender, class, ‘race’, wealth, fax machines and ‘poverty contests’ set in and around Durban (and Geneva). This revolves around a woman—Wonderwoman—living in a rural area near Durban, and her experiences of and responses to local and global inequalities, and her triumphs.
